Eating Seasonally

By LeighAnna FeeserAs a society that is constantly using natural and agricultural resources faster than we can plant new ones, it becomes important for us to try and modify our lifestyle to try and sustain the world for our future generations. We can begin doing this by training ourselves to eat seasonally. Eating seasonally will cut down on the abundance of fuel the world markets use to transfer foods across the world to super markets and local grocery stores. Naturally, this sounds like a fabulous idea. But, if you're like most people you want some guidelines and tools to use to help this transition be as easy as possible. Look no further, your starting point is right here.

What's coming up in season?

-Cherries

-Berries

-Watermelon

-Asparagus

-Basil

-Beets

-Blueberries

-Broccoli

-Cabbage

-Carrots

-Collard Greens

-Corn

-Cucumbers

The aforementioned are just to name a few. If you're ever confused about what is "in season," go to the Farmers' Market and see what the farmers have for sale from their crop. But even if you miss the Farmers' Market, you can always go to Kroger, Food Lion, or Wal-Mart. At the supermarket, look for the vegetables that are numerous and especially on sale-that's normally a good sign. Though, if given the choice, the Farmers' Market is the best choice, because it helps support local farmers. Happy and healthy eating!
