Oktoberfest Preview: A Great Line-Up for A Great Tradition

The first month of school is over and done with and Oktoberfest is just around the corner! Not only will there be food, games and booths all around, there will also be a great musical line-up. Lancer Productions and Mortar Board collaborated to decide on the line-up.

At 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, the Deloreans are first on Lancer Stage. The Deloreans perform often for Longwood students and were most recently seen performing at Rock the Block last year. They come from Hampton Roads, Virginia and specialize in ‘80s music, performing music from artists like Madonna, Prince, Fleetwood Mac and Jon Bon Jovi.

Next up at 2:10 p.m. on the Longwood Stage are the Honky Tonk Heroes. They are a country band and have four members, consisting of Bill Sincok on the drums and vocals, Chris Raymond on guitar and vocals, Mike Caruso on pedal steel and guitar, and Bob Thompson on bass guitar and vocals. The band is just about the release their second CD called "Paybacks are Hell."

Coming to the Lancer Stage at 3:20 p.m. are the Photosynthesizers. The group is from Richmond and sings hip-hop with a techno feel. The group formed in 2008 and toured with famous performers like Snoop Dog and Nappy Roots. Members of the band include Barcodez and Samsun for vocals, J Bryant on guitar, Wad on keys, Mikemetic on bass, Dr. Data on synths and turntables, and Nick on drums.

Jesse Chong comes onto Lancer Stage at 4:45 p.m. Jess Chong is from Virginia Beach, Virginia and performs bluegrass, blues, reggae, and funk. He plays a wide range of music and has opened for many different artists in his career, including performers Brad Paisley and The Neville Brothers. Chong has released four albums. Some of his more popular songs include "Way You Move Me" and "Goodbye Sunshine" from his 2008 hit album "Carry On."

At 5:55 p.m. critically acclaimed country artist Chuck Wicks will take the Longwood Stage. Wicks' first album, "Starting Now," featuring songs like "Stealing Cinderella" and "All I Ever Wanted," was released in 2007, and his popularity grew from there. He was given slots on country radio and quickly rose in the charts. Now, his popularity continues to grow as more of his songs play on the radio.

Yung Joc will grace the Longwood Stage at 7:30 p.m. Joc is a rapper and has performed with artists like Chris Brown. His first album, "New Joc City," came to #3 on the Billboard 200s and featured songs "It's Goin' Down" and "Dope Boy Magic."

The Dangerous Summer comes to the Lancer Stage at 8:20 p.m. The band is from Ellicott City, Maryland and released their first album, "Reach for the Sun," in 2009, reaching #42 on the Billboards. Band members include AJ Perdomo as the lead vocalist and bass player, Cody Payne as guitar and backup vocals, Bryan Czap on guitar, and Tyler Minsberg on drums.

And last, but not least in the line-up, is Augustana on the Longwood Stage at 9:30 p.m. Augustana is an American rock band from San Diego, California. The band released their first album, "Midwest Skies and Sleepless Mondays" in 2003. Most recently, the band is known for their 2011 album "Augustana." Some of their more popular songs include "Boston" and "Sweet and Low."Members include Dan Layus for vocals, guitar, and piano, Jared Palomar for bass guitar, vocals, and keyboard, Justin South on drums and percussion, Chris Sachtleben on guitar, mandolin, and vocals, and David Lamoureux on keyboard and vocals.
