SGA Discusses Student Debt at Meeting

Virginia 21 Deputy Director Brittney Tyler joined the Tuesday meeting of the Student Government Association to discuss a new campaign called "What's Your Number?" Virginia 21 is a lobby group for issues pertinent to higher education, and the new campaign is to raise awareness about student debt. Campuses across the commonwealth are hosting rallies and petitions to encourage Governor McDonnell for more financial aide in his budget recommendation.

Longwood has the highest number for student financial aide and the highest student loan number, according to Tyler. Look for Longwood's campaign on campus next week, and sign the petition at http://www.tinyurl.com/whatsyournumber to encourage McDonnell to secure more money for financial aid.

Lyndsey Lamb was sworn in as the SGA Auditor and Carrie Hartgrove was sworn in as the Freshman Class Treasurer. Several issues are being looked into by the SGA, including getting more lighting on Brock Commons at night and looking into using dormitories for housing during graduation.

The constitution for the fencing club, the Longwood Association of Teachers for English and Growth were all approved. $2,177.99 was allocated to Peer Health Educators for their conference.

Be sure to check out the Lancer Lunatic tailgate this Saturday from 4-6:30 p.m. at the soccer field. Come eat some free pizza, get some giveaways and get pumped for the game. The next SGA meeting is on Oct.25 at 3:45 p.m. in the BC room of Lankford Student Union.
