Virginia21 is launching a new campaign called "What's Your Number?" Virginia21 is a lobby group for issues pertinent to higher education, and the new campaign is to raise awareness about student debt. Campuses across the Commonwealth are hosting rallies and petitions to encourage Governor Bob McDonnell for more financial aid in his budget recommendation.
Longwood has the highest number for student financial aid and the highest student loan number, according to Virginia21 Deputy Director Brittany Tyler. Look for Longwood's campaign on campus next week, and sign the petition at http://www.tinyurl.com/whatsyournumberto encourage McDonnell to secure more money for financial aid.
There are several ways students can get involved. Track Virginia21 down next week to participate in the "What's Your Number" collage project; check The Rotunda next week for information. Also, film videos about your student debt and email them to whatsyournumber@virginia21.org.
Utilize Twitter to tweet about your student debt or struggles to pay for school. Use the hash tag #va21 and follow Virginia21 on Twitter. You can also sign the petition to help encourage McDonnell to allocate more money toward financial aid and help lower student debt. They are hoping to gather 10,000 signatures across the Commonwealth, so sign the petition then pass it along to your friends at Longwood and other schools.
