On Thursday, Nov. 3, at 10 p.m., MTV aired the second episode of the revamped series, "Beavis and Butt-head." The show lasts 30 minutes but is broken down into two mini episodes, both around 15 minutes each.
The first mini-episode was entitled "Daughter's Hand." When the show starts, Beavis and Butt-head are watching a television show that appears to be mocking the famous novel turned movie, "Pride and Prejudice." On the television, a male character is asking an older man for his daughter's hand, we assume in marriage. If you have never watched "Beavis and Butt-head" before, you need to know the boys are a little immature, so they do not quite understand what "asking for a hand" means. Their minds run wild and take the phrase in a completely provocative, incorrect context. In the boys' minds, they think all they need to do for a little female attention is ask her father first. Beavis and Butt-head decide to go over to a new girl named Victorias house and ask her father for her hand. When the boys ask Victoria's dad for her hand, he is somewhat confused and lets them know she has a boyfriend and if they want her "hand" they may have to wait a while. The father is amused by their antics, knowing that his daughter would have no interest in them, but of course Beavis and Butt-head don't catch on. They wait for four days on the curb for Victoria to return. Eventually they go to ask her father for her hand again, but this time things go a little less than how they planned. Victoria's father exclaims that the boys need to move on and that his daughter has no interest in marrying them. Beavis and Butt-head make the mistake of letting him know their real intentions, which don't involve tying the knot, in the least. The father completely loses control and begins to strangle the boys; they only get away because a neighbor steps in to help them get free.
The second mini-episode was "Tech Support," and in this episode Beavis and Butt-head go out looking for an abandoned movie drive-in. They arrive at the old location of the drive-in only to find a new building constructed where the drive-in used to be. The boys break inside the building; it is a computer technical support company where people help customers when they call in. The boys mimic the customers that call in, telling them that they sound boring and to fix their computers they should just light them on fire. Beavis and Butt-head ignore many calls and encourage the other workers to do the same, so eventually there is a complete power outage in the town. Citizens begin to loot and destroy the technical support center.
During this episode the boys watch and analyze "Teen Mom" and "True Life." The boys' make fun of the young dad on "Teen Mom," saying if he somehow could connect a chain from his lip piercings to his ear piercings maybe he could tie his mouth shut and stop looking like a "stupid mouth-breather." Beavis and Butt-head also make fun of the psychic on "True Life." They laugh about how she can predict that she will eat all the hot wings and end up paying for her bum boyfriend's dinner. The boys also watch Katy Perry's music video for her song "Firework." Butt-head makes fun of Beavis for liking "Firework" and tells him that he isn't a firework.
"Beavis and Butt-head" continues to impress viewers. The remake has succeeded in keeping true to the original, while still appealing to common day audiences. Don't forget to tune in every Thursday to MTV at 10 p.m. to catch the new season!
