Thursday, October 27, two of the most popular cartoon icons returned to MTV. Mike Judge's famous show "Beavis and Butt-head" aired at 10PM and was nothing short of hilarious.
Before the show even began and their faces were shown, you hear Beavis and Butt-head's deep breathy chuckles. The first episode was entitled, "Werewolves of Highland." The boys are at the theatre, watching one of the Twilight movies – "Eclipse." All the girls around them are sighing, clearly pining for the male characters on screen, and Beavis and Butt-head cannot understand the vampire and werewolf charm. They laugh at how all the characters seem to be whispering, and eventually the boys antics get them kicked out of the movie. The next day at school, their literature class analyzes classic horror novels of the past and compares them to the Twilight books. The teacher proclaims that sad girls like werewolves and vampires because they are the anti-heroes and are considered forbidden and irresistible. It is in that moment that Beavis and Butt-head decided they are going to find some creature to bite them so they can score chicks.
The second half of the show was entitled, "Crying," and this episode started out with Beavis and Butt-head sitting on the couch, eating chili dogs and watching television. Beavis starts to sniff the onions on his chili dog and begins to cry. Butt-head assumes he is crying over what is on television and makes fun of him. The next day at school, in class and at lunch, Butt-head announced that Beavis had cried over a sappy moment on television to everyone around. Beavis tried to defend himself, but everyone continued to mock him. The teachers exclaimed to Beavis that "it's okay to be touched," and, "it is alright to cry because crying takes the sad out of you." The show flashes to one month and then eighty years later, and Butt-head is still making fun of Beavis for crying. In the nursing home, eventually Butt-head died from laughing too hard, and Beavis runs him over in his wheel chair.
The new "Beavis and Butt-head" also remained true to the original by watching music videos and making fun of pop culture television shows. The boys analyzed the music videos of "Kids" by MGMT, "First of the Year" by Skrillex, and "Sexy and I Know It" by LMFAO. Beavis and Butthead would watch the music videos as literally as possible and create crude jokes along the way. The boys also watched Jersey Shore and True Life, both popular MTV shows. While watching Jersey Shore, the boys would complain that there wasn't enough fighting and there was too much Deena, a character on the show. The boys also laughed about what the cast would be called when they were older, giving them names such as Grandma Jwoww, Uncle Juicehead, and Grandpa Gorilla.
Liz Harris also watched the premiere of "Beavis and Butthead" Thursday night, and she loved the show, exclaiming, "I'm so excited that MTV decided to remake ‘Beavis and Butt-head.' What I liked most about the first episode was their commentary on the Twilight movies. When they made fun of Bella being zombie-like, I nearly died with laughter because that is what I think every time I see Kristen Stewart on the screen."
MTV has made a great decision to bring back the hit series "Beavis and Butt-head." The show is full of crude, but good-hearted humor and will hopefully continue to be a riot. Don't forget to tunein every Thursday at 10 p.m. on MTV to keep the boys alive.
