On Tuesday, Feb. 28, the Student Government Association (SGA) meeting opened with the swearing in of Honor Board Justice Rashadd Jordan. SGA President Brandon Fry announced that the SGA constitution has undergone several revisions, which the student body will vote on during SGA elections later this semester.
In previous meetings, the SGA brought up student concerns about the current attendance policy. Senator Ben Tyree announced he is going to discuss these concerns with the Executive Faculty Senate on Thursday, March 1.
Honors College Representative Leighan Worden mentioned that approved organization posters have been taken down without warning. Another senator mentioned that some students would like picnic tables or other seating areas at Longwood Village.
Fry said he is meeting with Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Ken Perkins on March 1 to discuss Longwood's current six-year plan. Perkins will speak about the plan at an upcoming SGA meeting. Fry also encouraged students to register to vote in Farmville because there are town officials who represent students. He also mentioned that students from other universities have run for Town Council in their university towns, and it would be great if students from Longwood did the same.
Treasurer Brian Reid reminded the students that budget packets for student organizations are due today, Feb. 29, at 5 p.m. Organizations will have the opportunity to present their budgets on Sunday, March 4 from noon to 6 p.m. Reid hopes to email organizations by Thursday to assign the exact times each organization will be able to present their budget.
The SGA allocated $2,205.68 from the Educational Programming Appropriations Act (EPAA) account to Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and the Student Diversity and Inclusion council. The SGA also approved $264 to the Math Club. Finally, the SGA allocated $171.06 to their own organization for a music license.
