Winter is well underway, or is it? The crazy fall and rise of temperatures has made dressing for winter a difficult thing to do. One day is calling for shorts and the next a knitted sweater and fur-line boots. Luckily, or maybe unfortunately, this hasn't stopped the newest and craziest trends of winter 2012 from emerging.
The first on this expressive list of winter must-haves is faux fur. Hollywood glamour met everyday necessity with expressive faux fur vests, complete with different patterns of animals or just one shade tones. Fur also made an appearance in scarves, hats, gloves and of course, Ugg boots. They stayed strong for another year, making everyone look warm and a bit like Eskimos.
While fur can be attractive on some, it's still a rather aging look in my opinion. The last time I saw someone wearing fur was a floor length minx jacket, and my grandmother was wearing it. But here is hope yet for the fur fashion in its simplicity. As long as no one walks around with the fashionable coats of our ancestors trailing behind them, we should be good to go with the bits and pieces worn as separates.
Extravagance and elegance made another appearance in lace. The runway was covered in it, ranging in many different colors in cluding bright blues, soft whites and deep browns that ran dark to blacks. Classic dresses turned a bit more updated, losing their tight bodice silhouettes with skirts and instead running in a long t-shirt like fashion. This different silhouette made for an edgy lace look that any girl is able to pull off without feel ing like a large, overstuffed doll. Lace also found its way into jewelry, headwear and even shoes.
Following this soft look made edgy was leather made soft. Most people think of leather in terms of leather jackets and the studded metal on the shoul ders, but this winter has made another name for leather. Instead of only being worn as a jacket, win ter introduced leather in the form of a skirt. The colors range from black to ivory to a soft gray and were paired nicely with flow ery and feminine tops on the runway, mak ing for an effortless, easy and warm look.
Another look that is presenting itself this winter season is something along the lines of "360." "360" is the idea of funky angles, different cutouts, added glitz and glamour, added gems and layered geometrical shapes on t-shirts. This look encom passes differently cut shirts where the back is longer than the front, funky fabric shoes, chunky jewelry that hangs at drastic angles and layered skirts. It's the idea that the look is interesting from every angle of the body. It's an easy style to layer, perfect for those days that start off like winter and end up like spring.
Winter is a time for being bold, throwing on the layers, and breaking out the boots. It's also a time for trying different styles and laying off on the flow er power until spring.
