SGA Begins Confirming Budget for 2012-2013

The main topic of discussion at the March 27 meeting of the Student Government Association (SGA) was the commencement of going through confirming the SGA budget for the 2012-2013 school year. Before they went through the budget, however, they got a couple of housekeeping issues taken care of.

Patrick Barnes, AnnaLeah Chantry, Katie Heim, Miguel Gavilan, Carly Westbrook, Alyson Brackin, Lindsey Ellinger, Jordan Baldasare and Alexandria Cole were all sworn in as Judicial Board Justices. The Student Finance Committee (SFC) allocated $235.06 to Phi Beta Sigma for a conference. A total of $112.20 was also allocated to SGA to send President Brandon Fry to a conference in Washington, D.C.

Several concerns were brought forward during the open forum segment of the meeting. One senator felt the graduation website had a highly gendered dress code and asked if a more generalized dress code could be posted on the website. Also, there are no gender neutral bathrooms on campus, even though the single bathrooms with locks could be used by either gender.

One senator asked if a sign could be obtained that could be placed outside of the Lankford Student Union to remind people to be quiet when coming in while a function is being held in the ballroom.

Another student wanted to voice the concern that honor students have priority registration, but honor freshmen had trouble obtaining their pin from their adviser to sign up. Another senator brought up that sleeves for the coffee cups in Dorrill Dining Hall (D-Hall) would be useful, and there has been an ant problem in D-Hall.

Senators also expressed concern about issues with smoke coming from the Heating Plant. The issue is actively being worked on by the university. Please visit the Rotunda Online to view a document with the progress SGA has made thus far regarding the 2012-2013 SGA budget.
