Say Yes to the Dress:

Say Yes to the Dress:

Choosing a dress can be full of drama, and often bridesmaids cop an attitude.

If you are a regular TLC fan, you have probably seen at least one promotion for "Say Yes to the Dress" or "Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta." My favorite installment of the series, however, is "Say Yes to the Dress: Bridesmaids."

Women are catty and mean and downright ugly. Make a group of women get together and try and choose a dress, and you have a recipe for disaster. As the show describes, the maid of honor can quickly turn into a maid of honorzilla. "I see it all the time. maid of honor is jealous because the bride is getting married and maybe they are not," explains Lori Allen, owner of the shop Bridals by Lori, where both the Atlanta and Bridesmaids installments are filmed. That was exactly what we saw with the first bridal party featured in the season two premiere of "Say Yes to the Dress: Bridesmaids." Meghan, the bride, had selected two maid of honors. That's always a tricky choice in my book. Not impossible, just tricky. It seemed like the maids of honor were not extremely pleased with the dual role. At least one of them was not.

Jessica had been Meghan's friend for 21 years. She felt that not only did she deserve to be the only maid of honor, she also felt that she deserved to stand out in the crowd and demanded to wear fuchsia. Meghan was okay with the maids of honor wearing different dresses, but she wanted both to stand out, so she sought out a yellow gown for Roxi. Those two colors, against the gray for the rest of the bridal party, clashed in an obnoxious way. I'm not sure if Roxi picked out yellow, or where the color concept came from, but as soon as Meghan saw all the colors against each other, she saw they did not work. This quickly escalated to a mini meltdown from Jessica, who felt that Roxi, a newer friend of Meghan, didn't deserve to be a maid of honor. She felt like it was rude that Meghan picked two, and she threatened to step down as a regular bridesmaid. After a cryfest on the showroom floor, Meghan pulled herself together. Tension was still in the room, but the bridal party was able to carry on and choose a dress.

The second bride we met was Latoya. She had less drama, but still had obstacles. Latoya had envisioned a "Sex in the City," one shoulder dress for her bridesmaids, but some of them where too busty to support the style. It took some work to bring Latoya away from her ideal vision, but once they did, they were able to find a dress that worked for everyone.

I love the show and hearing the drama (whether authentic or heightened) is always a comedic relief from my night of homework. The show takes place in Atlanta, giving most of the girls a Southern drawl and a more country approach to life. The only thing I hope to see in the future is some more happy bridesmaids. I was a bridesmaid myself (hi Lauren!), and we didn't have drama. I hope in the future they have balance of the good and the bad.
