This week's "Glee" starts right off with a song, and the viewer is left wondering how it's possible the "Glee" writers have run out of songs to assign each week when they have the show starting off with the disco number "You Should be Dancing."
After song number one, the viewer is taken into the choir room where the Glee kids are sitting along with Will Schuester and Sue Sylvester. After a really random flashback of a young Schuester singing in Nationals, he wants to assign a disco theme and all the Gleeks are in agreement.
Speaking of Gleeks, where is Quinn? The character just returned from a car crash, which left her paralyzed and in a wheelchair. One would think her absence would be noted.
Anyway, back to the tribute episode of the season. In Sue's office - after playing with his freaky diorama of the Glee kids (which only showed up this episode)-Will confesses that he doesn't have any ideas of how to pull the kids back into a unit. Sue, showing that whoever wrote this episode knows what continuity means, mentions the Madonna week of season one and the "Rumors" week of season two. She mentions that the Gleeks love swag, and clips are shown from episodes from which swag was given.
In the hallway, Kurt and Mercedes are approached by a random dude. He turns out to be from Vocal Adrenaline (rivals of New Directions when it suits the plot). The character (played by one of the Glee Project winners Alex Newell-no relation) confesses to be a huge fan of both Kurt and Mercedes and wants their advice about whether or not he should compete in Regional's in high heels and a dress.
Before any more depth is given to this character, the viewer is taken back to the choir room where Sue gives some of her famous put downs and a dancing competition is born. At the end, there were three finalists in the competition - Santana, Mercedes and Finn. Finn - the boy who, in season two, broke Rachel's nose while dancing. How did he win and not Mike?
That's not really answered, but the home audience is greeted with song number two (or three if you count the music from the dance off). After the song, we're greeted with some Puck and Finn friendship time. After that, Sue reveals to Kurt and Mercedes that she has most of the school wiretapped and bugged. Prior to that, she confessed her disappointment after hearing how they talked to a boy from Vocal Adrenaline.
Anyway, moving on to the more interesting characters: Brittney reveals that she released a sex tape of her and Santana to the school population in order to allow her girlfriend to become famous. Sam boosts Mercedes sinking confidence by putting a video of her on YouTube (speaking of which, how much did "Glee" have to spend in order to get that on the air?).
As the Gleeks reveal their dreams, they gain more confidence. The show ends with the Glee kids singing "Staying Alive."
The members of New Directions prove that disco isn't dead as they perform "Disco Inferno"
