The Disastrous Premiere of the 'New' Amanda Show

The Disastrous Premiere of the 'New' Amanda Show

If one were to ask just about anybody who grew up in the '90s who Amanda Bynes is, Nickelodeon's "All That" and "The Amanda Show" immediately come to mind. However, over the recent holiday weekend, Bynes ran into a bit of trouble with the law.

It wasn't such a Good Friday for Bynes. The actress spent the majority of her Friday morning in a West Hollywood jail cell in Los Angeles. At around 3:00 in the early morning, "a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy in a marked black and white radio car, was stopped at the intersection of Robertson Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard ... when a black BMW driven by actress Amanda Bynes attempted to pass the right of the radio car, colliding with the right rear quarter panel of the radio car," said a West Hollywood Police Station spokesperson.

The actress, known more recently for her roles in 2003's "What a Girl Wants," 2007's "Hairspray" and 2010's, "Easy A," has been under the radar as of late, after renouncing the industry that had propelled her to stardom. In 2010, she announced her intentions to retire from acting on her Twitter page where she wrote, "Being an actress isn't as fun as it may seem. If I don't love something anymore, I stop doing it. I don't love acting anymore, so I've stopped doing it." Within a month the actress swiftly "unretired."

Bynes had been spotted before her arrest in the bar at The Standard Hotel. After being busted by the police, Bynes was soon apprehended and taken to jail, where her bail was set at $5,000. She was released later on Friday, where she was then spotted retrieving her BMW from an impound lot. It is being alleged that the actress returned to The Standard Hotel later that night. She was allegedly refused entrance into the bar.

This is not the first time Bynes has had a run-in with the police. Last month, the actress was pulled over by a police officer after being caught talking on her cell phone while driving. She pulled over and provided all documentation that was necessary. However, while the officer went back to his car to verify all of the information, she drove off before the officer was able to give her the ticket. The officer decided not to follow her since she had already provided her documentation. Bynes showed up later that same day to sign the ticket.

It is tough to determine the severity of what the one-time child star might be going through. Despite the common consensus that DUIs are an extremely serious criminal charge, they are extremely common, and people from just about every age group, ethnicity, religion and more have received one. Could this be the sign of a troubled future to come? Or could it be a one-time mishap, where she was lucky enough that nobody was hurt? Only time will tell.
