Pretty Little Liars: Mona 2.0 or Meredith?

Don’t lie to yourself. You have been watch- ing this show every Tuesday like it’s a reli- gion. This week, like each week, we still have more mysteries than answers. Here are a couple things we know for sure from previ- ous episodes: Toby is part of the A team with Mona and Lucas is innocent, we think. That’s all we really know so far.

Tuesday’s episode, began with Aria lying on the couch, sick, as all the girls discuss Mona’s “innocence.” Hanna’s boyfriend Caleb becomes suspicious in Hanna’s eyes after she overhears him talking on the phone, discussing Mona and agreeing to meet up with someone. Meredith continues to feed Aria her “special tea,” while stealing Aria’s phone and telling her mom that she’s getting much better when she’s clearly not.

Hanna devises a plan for Emily to stake out Caleb’s little meet-up with the mysterious phone caller. As Emily is about to see this mystery person she gets an urgent text from one of the other girls saying that Hanna has just been set up by A. We then find out that Caleb's secret meeting is with Emily’s girlfriend, Paige.

Hanna enters a store and gets locked in a room full of mannequins by someone from the A team and finds a key labeled “A.” Then she receives a text from A saying “Next time you’ll be left faceless.” Really A, is that the best threat you have?

Ali comes into Aria’s dream and warns her of Toby and Meredith’s bad tea. Aria asks Ali if it was her dad that killed her and Ali cryptically responds, “I don’t look dead to you, do I?”

While walking along, Hanna and Emily spot Meredith trying to get the drugs that she has been putting into Aria’s tea, bark- ing at the pharmacist like the crazy woman she is. Before Hanna and Emily can make it to Aria’s house, Aria wakes up to Meredith standing over her bed, furious because she can’t find Ali’s diary pages and clutching a broken piece of glass Aria had been hiding in her bed. Aria runs out only to be smacked down by Meredith. When Hanna and Em- ily show up looking for Aria, they get lured down into the basement by Meredith and trapped with a passed out Aria. Smart girls.

Aria’s dad arrives home, and Meredith eerily sits by a fire telling him that Aria knows everything. As he walks down the stairs the girls arm them- selves not sure if they can trust him anymore, but he’s quick to assure them that he did not, in fact, kill Ali. All is well.

The suspense builds again as Toby creeps into Spencer’s house, look- ing for the key marked “A,” only to see that Spencer is one step ahead, walking up behind him dangling the key and asking, “Is this what you’re looking for?” He asks how long she’s known, and before she answers, her mom walks in giving Toby a quick chance for escape while Spencer bursts into tears as she falls in her mother’s arms.

The show finishes with Aria’s dad saying that the only way to prove his innocence is to confess to the police, but she stops him by burning the diary papers.

Darn, someone almost made a good decision for the first time in this whole show. The dramatic ending comes in the form of Spencer falling apart on Toby’s doorstep with only the audience knowing that it’s not Toby inside, but rather Mona being her disturbing self. Finally, for the first time in a long time, an episode ends with more things resolved, even if it involves some heartbreak.

The Pretty Little Liars find some answers in this episode but there were also a lot of new questions raised.
