In this week’s episode of "The Car- rie Diaries", it was Halloween night in the year 1984. Carrie was still trying to handle her breakup with Sebas- tian, so she played an awkward game of hide-and-seek in her high school hallways in an attempt to avoid him. Instead of going to Sebastian’s party, Carrie and her friend Walt chose to join her glamorous friend Larissa at a party in the city. It was all fun and games until both of her friends be- came doped up on LSD and Ecstasy.
Carrie didn’t even get the chance to flirt with a hot, new guy named Ben- nett for five minutes before Larissa interrupted them, too high to stand on her own feet. Fortunately for Bennett, this wasn’t a problem because it left him to take care of Walt. If you hadn’t guessed it by now, you might want to tone up your gay-dar. The only person who didn’t seem to know Walt was gay was Walt himself. That is, until Bennett kissed him, and that did not work out so well.
As Walt walked home alone questioning himself, he saw a couple walking together, holding hands. It seemed to be a problem to a couple of other guys around because the couple consisted of two men. When they started messing with them, Walt decided to step in and stand up for the two men, even though he still de- nied he was gay as well, but not with much conviction if we’re being honest.
Meanwhile, Carrie was playing babysitter to her unstable friend, who proceeded to run on the roof and nearly jump off. Once Carrie had finally gotten her onto a bed, passed out, she went to find Walt only to dis- cover he was gone.
Then, when Carrie returned to Lar- issa, she was disgusted to find a guy on top of her making out with her unconscious body. Ultimately, Carrie decided she couldn’t blame it on anyone, except maybe herself because being a good friend doesn’t involve leaving a blacked out friend on a bed alone.
While the party raged on in the city, Sebastian’s was in full swing as well; this is where Carrie’s two friends The Mouse and Donna found themselves. Donna wasted no time falling into her promiscuous ways with the policeman once again. However, where the city party had Ecstasy and acid, this party stuck with marijuana.
The Mouse was a victim of weed for the first time and seemed to be en- joying it when Carrie arrived home to find The Mouse on her doorstep and Sebastian hovering on the sidewalk as well. Being a gentleman, he had dropped The Mouse off there, rather than back at home, leaving Carrie with yet another drugged friend to take care of. But of course, this only made things better between Carrie and Sebastian somehow. Chivalry, I suppose.
Next Monday at school, Carrie described it as all the masks being gone from everyone. She doesn’t feel as if anyone is masking who they are any longer, and when she and Sebastian cross paths in the hall this time, they don’t hide or ignore each other but rather casually nod with smiles.
Don’t we all love a happy ending?
