Friday Night Crafting at its Finest: Lancer Productions’ Pinterest Party

On Friday January 24, the Lancer Productions’ late night committee hosted a Pinterest Party from 7-9 p.m. in the Lankford Student Union. Students were welcome to come and go as they pleased in the open environment.

The Pinterest Party was inspired by the famous photo-sharing social media site Pinterest where people are able to create their own pin boards and re-pin images to their own or “like” certain images and links.

It’s also a great place to hone ideas for crafts, making it easy for the rest of us to become like Martha Stewart. The event was free of charge and all were welcomed.

The Pinterest Party had various types of crafts, such as sections for assorted picture frames with different paints, Mod

Podge coasters, clothes pins to decorate with using paint or patterned paper and string to hang pictures from.

Other crafts included paper clips with colorful assorted ribbons to tie on to things such as agendas and notebooks to be used as place markers and cute tumblers to decorate with puffy paint, glitter and stencils.

The Mod Podge coasters were being crafted with cloth, an interesting concept not often seen.

The event was led by Sophomore Jessica Hamilton who was inspired to bring a “more freely relaxed” event to Longwood that everyone was able to participate in.

When asked about how the Pinterest Party came to be Hamilton said, “I love Pinterest arts and crafts, and I wanted to give it to the people of Longwood.”

As an added bonus, you were able to take your craft home with you.

Junior Sarah Thomas, an attendee of the event loved the idea of the Pinterest Party as well.

“I’m such a crafty person and it was great that Longwood has an event perfect for my friends and I,” said Thomas. “I like how I’m able to enjoy doing something I love.”

She did a number of crafts, but her favorite was a colorful picture frame for her apartment in which she wanted to place a picture of her and her boyfriend.

Another student, Maria Biava attended the event with her friends and was surprised by some of the ideas for the crafts.

“I would have never thought about using clothes pins as an idea to decorate, along with the paper clips,” said Biava. “It was such a great idea because instead of going out and buying crafts, I can just look into my closet or around my house and find some amazing ideas just by using little things that I otherwise would have never thought about using.”

She made various crafts as well, some of which included painting a red tumbler, painting a picture frame and painting clothes pins to hang up pictures for her room.

“I look forward to the next Pinterest Party, along with the next Lancer Production Late Night committee event,” said Biava. “I didn’t expect to end up with so many crafts.”

The first ever Pinterest Party was a success for the Lancer Productions Late Night Committee.
