‘Archer’ Once Again Cements Itself as One of the Funniest Shows on Television

Last week’s episode of FX’s “Archer,” which aired on Monday, Jan. 27, featured some of the best and most ridiculous fun the show has seen in months.

After a hilarious and experimental start to this new fifth season, the critically acclaimed animated spy comedy gave fans a wildly entertaining episode.

This new season of “Archer” has been spearheaded by some of the most incredible writing. With the return of many characters who haven’t been seen in years and the continuing hilarious antics of the now disavowed International Secret Intelligence Service (ISIS), the show is already firing on all pistons.

This past episode of “Archer: Vice,” “A Debt of Honor,” featured the fan favorite ISIS Human Resources director turned field agent Pam Poovey (voiced by Amber Nash).

After former ISIS director and mother of super spy Sterling Archer, Malory Archer transformed the espionage agency into a drug cartel, the delightful Pam developed a tiny insidious cocaine addiction. Especially with the failure of their first attempted drug deal, Pam has lost herself to her addiction.

After being paid one million dollars in monopoly money for several pounds of cocaine, the “ISIS Cartel” is a bit discouraged and simply planning their next move.

Meanwhile, the crafty Pam upgrades her substance abuse and “buys” one million dollars’ worth of amphetamines from her friends, the Yakuza, for whom she used to drag race.

Shocked and enraged at Pam’s poor decision, the team realizes they barely have any means to defend themselves from a small army of Japanese gangsters.

With the ISIS headquarters seized by the US government, they have taken refuge in the mansion of the clearly insane and hilarious Cheryl Tunt, former secretary to Malory Archer.

As expected, the Yakuza realize that Pam had betrayed their trust and put a hit out on her, much to her distress.

After suddenly realizing that her friends may need her help, Cheryl tables her new hobby as “the nation’s greatest country singer” and points everyone in the direction of her great uncle’s gun collection.

Even though they date back to the 1860s (something Archer doesn’t mind), the team makes due and gets ready for the Yakuza to attack.

As Archer deals out the ancient firearms to everyone in the room, Malory’s new husband, Cadillac salesmen Ron Cadillac then denies. After proceeding into a hilarious rant regarding international spy agencies, Japanese gangs and cocaine sales, a stray Yakuza bullet strikes Ron in the stomach.

The Yakuza boss (voiced by George Takei) has ordered his men to apprehend Pam, and the team is hardly prepared.

After a quick and snappy organizing of a daring plan, Archer has the less capable field agents escort Ron and Pam to a safe place while he sneaks into the Yakuza boss’ limo and forces him at gunpoint to leave. On one condition: several hundred pounds of Malory’s cocaine.

In the end, after a hilarious and equally ridiculous adventure, Archer and his team end up no closer to a profit than last time.

As fans all over the world continue to watch the hilarity unfold, “Archer: Vice” continues to provide a perfect end to our Mondays.
