Last Thursday night at 9 p.m., Miley Cyrus was on MTV’s “Unplugged”. “Unplugged” is basically MTV’s way of having currently popular performers put on a show as they choose.
The shows are broadcast with a live audience, and so are quickly publicized. Since this week’s episode featured the "twerk queen," social media about the show spread like wild fire.
Miley’s motto always seems to be “go big or go home,” which was immediately apparent with her stage set up and costumes.
She came out wearing what looked like a bedazzled pink plaid onesie, complete with a cowboy hat and boots and an obviously fake wig.
Alongside her were not only backup singers and instrumentalists, but a fake horse as well. She began her performance with “4x4”, the fourth track from her new album “Bangerz”.
Throughout the hour she performed other songs from her new album including “Drive,” “Wrecking Ball,” and her latest single, “Adore You,” which was actually the first song she recorded for the album.
Between songs she stressed her country roots and gave some insider information about some of her songs. Before “Rooting for My Baby,” Miley shared that the song was inspired by the people who still support her when life is crazy. “No matter what happens to the people in your life, they’ll always be there to support you even when life is crazy,” she said.
Although her show was relatively normal, what’s a Miley Cyrus performance without some twerking, tongues sticking out and crotch grabbing? Instead of Robin Thicke, it was a fake horse and Madonna getting some action! Yes, I said Madonna.
Miley’s last song was a mashup of Madonna’s 2000 track “Don’t Tell Me” and Miley’s “We Can’t Stop.” Their duet started and ended the same way: with some butt grabbing.
This originally created some controversy, but apparently it was choreographed and all in good fun. Some funky costumes, an inside scoop and butt grabbing - what else is needed for good TV?
MTV even admitted Miley’s ”Unplugged” episode was a success. “Miley’s vision for the performance is nothing we’ve ever seen,” MTV said, “I can say that this will easily be one of the most memorable ‘Unplugged’ performances to date.”
However, not everyone watching agreed with MTV. Someone on twitter said she looked like a “homeless hippie” because of her hair. But her original fashion and overall music style makes her a unique performer who makes everyone wonder what she’s going to do next!
