No. 6 in the North, Longwood Men Looking to Upset No. 3 in the South, Gardner- Webb

On Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 8 p.m. EST, Longwood’s men’s basketball team is set to play their first game of the Big South tournament against the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs.

The two teams met once during the regular season. The Bulldogs, who won the contest 82-62, dominated the game.

“We've got to play defense. I had our team in a bad game plan the first time we played them,” said Head Coach Jayson Gee. “We were tentative defensively and I over-thought; in this game we'll go after them. We've got to really be aggressive and we've got to play Longwood basketball.”

Senior Guard Tristan Carey was the points man for Longwood in the last matchup, scoring 26 points in 35 minutes of play. Sophomore Guard Lucas Woodhouse, sixth in all NCAA Division I for assist, added six assists for Longwood.

According to Gee, the team needs Woodhouse, Carey and Sophomore Forward Karl Ziegler to step up and score the ball in order for Longwood to win. They are also going to need the supporting cast to chip in where needed, which Gee believes they will.

Longwood must also stop Gardner-Webb’s Sophomore Forward Jerome Hill who has been averaging 14.2 points per game, and adding 8 rebounds per game. Hill had 19 points and 8 rebounds in the last game between these two teams.

“We're going to try and play him physical. [Damarion] Geter is our best interior defender so he'll guard [Hill] some. It's going to be a challenge, but we just have to be physical, not just on Hill, but on the team,” said Gee.

It’s going to be a physical and hard fought game and Longwood is going to do all they can to upset The Bulldogs.

“Myrtle Beach is our place of destiny. This is where destiny will be made for Longwood University. If you don't believe it then get off the bus.” said Gee.
