Farmville Police Investigate Assault during Spring Weekend

Two assaults occurred in Farmville during Longwood University’s Spring Weekend. The Farmville Police Department is still investigating and gathering the facts quickly.

According to Chief of Farmville Police Doug Mooney in an official press release, Farmville Police responded to Southside Community Hospital for an assault on Saturday, April 12 at 1:55 a.m.

“The victim, who is a 19 year old Longwood University student, was at a[n] off campus house party in the 600 block of Buffalo Street when he was struck in the face with a glass bottle causing a laceration,” according to Mooney’s press release. “A felony warrant for malicious wounding was obtained for 23 year old Travonte Dequan Graves, also a Longwood University student.”

According to Mooney, Graves was arrested by Longwood University Police and remains at Piedmont Regional Jail under no bond.

“The address of this crime is the same as a reported rape from February of this year,” said Mooney. “LU student Gus Altschuler was charged with Rape and Abduction with Intent to Defile and awaits trial for that offense.”

“Farmville police responded to a report of a person down on the sidewalk in the 200 block of Garden Street at approximately 2:07 a.m. on Sunday, April 13,” according to Mooney in the same press release. “Officers found the 18-year-old male severely wounded from multiple stab wounds.”

According to Mooney, the victim was found lying on the ground with numerous stab wounds, and the investigation leads the police to believe that more than one person stabbed the victim.

“The victim, who was robbed of personal items, was stabilized and remains in a hospital recovering from non-life threatening injuries,” the press release states. “He is not a Longwood University student, but was in Farmville attending off campus parties for LU Spring Weekend.”

The Farmville Police Department urges anyone with information about this crime to contact Detective David Ragland at (434) 392-2112.
