Unlike past and current Spring Weekend plans, next year’s 2015 Spring Weekend ideas might possibly have a different take on the main events. As it currently stands, Spring Weekend begins Friday evening and then continues throughout Saturday, but there are plans to cut down the length of the weekend festivities. Although still up for debate, Lancer Productions committee member Natalie Joseph said, “I know that we are trying to move Spring Weekend to one day next year.”
Spring Weekend’s band and musical performances – WMLU’s Bandfest and the concerts by Lancer Productions – would also be affected by this change, taking out Bandfest. However, official word has not been released or decided.
President of Lancer Productions Jeffrey Reason spoke on the ideas and plans for next year’s Spring Weekend. While still in debate and discussion over changing a few things, cutting down to just one day is a possibility. There are hopes to try and make room for both Bandfest and the other concerts in the same day. However, they do not want to cut back the amount of time given to each concert series.
“Lancer Productions will be meeting throughout the rest of this semester into next fall semester to discuss official plans for Spring Weekend 2015. We thought about teaming up with WMLU radio and incorporating Bandfest; however, it is not something we have decided on at the moment,” Reason stated. Reason also said, “Yes, we would definitely keep Bandfest for that Saturday evening, but cut out events and performances on Friday. Basically, we will cut out and change things here and there in order for potential groups [bands/performers] to appear.”
Additionally, as the Farmville Police Department and Longwood University Police Department have to respond to multiple noise complaints during Spring Weekend each year, cutting out any Friday performances would lessen local resident issues as pointed out by Lancer Productions Advisor and Director of the Office Student Union and Involvement Susan Sullivan. “Lancer Productions will be meeting throughout the rest of this semester into next fall semester to discuss official plans for Spring Weekend 2015.”
