The only thing standing between you and this year’s Spring Weekend 2014 are a few more classes. Hang in there. It’s coming. Obviously, everyone who has been to or heard about spring weekend should be excited, and this year is no different.
What’ll happen this coming weekend you ask? Isn’t it obvious? Warmer weather and hopefully not a cloud or raindrop in the sky, shorts, an array of maxi dresses and shining little Longwood faces all over campus, that’s what. Loud music will most likely be played on Brock Commons this Friday as you skip happily to your remaining classes, and cold drinks will be everywhere. Oh, and that’s not to mention a few people Lancer Productions pulled off. The Northerners, Adelee & Gentry, Deejay Trademark and Hoodie Allen just to name a few.
However, just be forewarned. Whether you want to be aware of everything this weekend or unaware of everything, it’s really up to you, just be cautious that other Lancers get really into the whole Spring Weekend thing. If you are ready to party beginning this Friday, whether that may start that evening, midday or hey I don’t know, you may feel ready to go out Thursday, it’s Spring Weekend. Take a walk on the wild side, if you like.
If you are one of those who is too excited for this upcoming spring fest, be careful when and where you start your partying.
If you are interested in remembering anything this coming weekend or, more importantly, the awesome performances Lancer Productions and WMLU have put together for us, then make sure you’re being smart about when and where you’re turning up. Believe it or not, there is truth behind “too hype.”
Yes, I agree with the majority of all student Lancers by saying, “It’s Spring Weekend, and a lot of craziness happens (most notably) during this weekend.” However, keep in mind that the Public Relations committee of Lancer Productions works very hard to find the best musical performances for Longwood. While letting loose is great, especially with warmer spring weather putting everyone in a good mood, it is equally important to respect those around you. As reported by Longwood’s campus Police department, Spring Weekend is one of the top noise complaints. Not only is it just important to think about the work Lancer Productions and WMLU put behind Bandfest on Friday and the lineup for Spring Weekend on Saturday, it is just as critical to be watchful of neighboring residents. Because Longwood University sits smack in the middle of the town of Farmville, it is not surprising that noise complaints happen during Spring Weekend every year. There are restrictions on when the bands perform because of complaints.
Noise ordinance regulations for Longwood University and Farmville usually begin at 9 p.m. however, due to special events such as Spring Weekend, the Longwood campus police and Farmville police will begin taking noise complaints into effect at 11 p.m. Because of these guidelines, most of the Bandfest and other artist performances run from the late afternoon into the evening. Anything noise related after that sits on the shoulders of Longwood’s individuals. So remember, have fun but keep in mind your own volume and actions.
