Rising Comedian Brings Life to Longwood

Farmville, relationships and crazy care packages were among the topics that up and coming comedian, Rob Gleeson, talked about during his set on Saturday night. The rising comedy star started his comedic career during his time at the University of Denver and recently finished a tour through the Midwest, performing from college to college. He has been casted on Showtime’s “House of Lies” and was a comic guest on “Conan.”

In the Student Union Ballroom, Gleeson was met with an intimate group of Longwood students, where we all had a good laugh. He opened with jokes about the lack of activities in Farmville. “I googled fun things to do in Farmville and I swear to God, swear to God, my computer went to sleep,” joked Gleeson.

The crowd erupted with laughter.

Gleeson then showed off his improvisation skills as he interacted with the crowd. The majority of his jokes dealt with the crowd members: where they were from, crazy care packages and even the relationships between members of the crowd.

People like Alex Fedorchak and his girlfriend, Charlotte Lackey, were made a part of the show as Gleeson asked them about their relationship. When asked about the show later on, and being used for Gleeson’s jokes , Fedorchak responded, “It was a good show to be sure. I enjoyed his improv more than his other material. Being the focus of his ribbing was pretty funny and I didn’t mind it.”

After he polled the audience about the craziest care packages they’ve received, Gleeson told a story of the craziest one he ever heard of. At a previous show, a young man said his mother sent him his pet cat, only it was dead and stuffed!

Rebecca Morra, a freshman, also really enjoyed the show, saying, “I liked how he was able to relate most of the jokes to Longwood or Farmville.”

Gleeson’s improvisation abilities were excellent and he proved that he could be quick-witted and hilarious. As evidenced through the constant roaring laughter, the crowd loved him, as well as his comedy act.

He also showed that he was extremely crowd friendly as he took the time to answer tweeted questions on stage. After the show, Gleeson welcomed questions and pictures from the audience.

Everyone in attendance got a great laugh and it’s a real shame that only a handful of people came out to see Gleeson. For those of you who didn’t come to see him, you missed a hilarious show.
