Junior guard Daeisha Brown is out for the rest of the 2014-15 season due to a torn ACL in her right knee, according to head coach Bill Reinson.
“The injury to Daeisha [Brown] is extremely unfortunate. She was terrific in our first two games and finally looked like the Daeisha Brown from early last season,” Reinson told Longwood’s official athletic site.
Brown tore the ACL at Richmond University on Nov. 20, after playing 14 minutes in the first half, after a lay-up attempt.
Brown played in just three games this season before the injury occurred, and will be attempting to earn a NCAA medical redshirt for this season.
“Dae Dae [Brown] is a tough-minded young woman and I have no doubt that she will approach her rehabilitation with the same level of determination and energy that she gives every day in practice,” Reinson told Longwood’s official athletic site.
Brown has been averaging 16.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists through three games this season. A Preseason All-Big South selection coming into the season, she led the team and was fourth in the Big South in points per game (15.3) last season.
Injuries hurt the Lancers last season with the team’s first game starters only starting three of the 30 games last season together. Brown missed six of those 30 games last season due to injuries.
The Lancers (0-4) will be traveling to Williamsburg, Virginia on Saturday, Nov. 29 for a game against the Tribe of William & Mary (2-2) at 2 p.m.
Reinson believes Brown will be able to make a full recovery and return next season for the Lancers, “I expect that she [Brown] will return next season stronger than ever.”
