Hampden-Sydney College (HSC) administrators have officially closed the schools doors this afternoon, until Monday, Feb. 2. According to the Farmville Herald, more than 300 people affiliated with HSC have been sickened. Officials believe the cause to be gastroenteritis, which is caused by the Norovirus.
According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, the College’s officials do not suspect food poisoning as a possible reason for the mass-sickness.
Some symptoms of gastroenteritis include inflammation of the stomach and intestines, which often results from viral infection causing vomiting and diarrhea.
The Rotunda will update the story with any future developments.
