Jason Garner, CEO of Global Music at Live Nation, and a former Live Nation executive, has recently published a new book entitled, “And I Breathed, My Journey from a Life of Matter to a Life that Matters.” Garner continues to blog on a regular basis for his many followers.
Garner started out as a flea market parking attendant, but over the years made his way to be the man he is today. These experiences are described in his most recent book as he not only reflects on his events, but shares also what he has learned through them and how each event may be beneficial. Garner writes in attempts of “helping the reader find themselves.”
“And I Breathed...” which was dedicated to Garner’s mother, where he shares his combination of experiences and lessons that he has learned. Garner views this not as “a self-help book,” but more of “a self-love book.” He doesn’t try to push that there is one correct way to live life or to love oneself, rather he shares the way that he learned to love himself.
Garner commented, “I hope my readers will take away an authentic feeling that is true to themselves,” and he hopes that his readers will learn to love themselves in the same way that he learned to love himself.
The main idea of “And I Breathed…” is as Garner states, “we can have success in business while being happy in our personal and spiritual lives,” and it is an idea that Garner plants in the heads of his readers and promotes throughout the book’s entirety. Garner is living proof of this idea through his success as CEO and author and also through his practice of a daily routine that promotes a happy personal and spiritual life. Garner’s daily practice includes yoga, meditation and a diet of nutrient-dense foods, which he explains in detail for his readers and encourages them to try. Garner commented, “If students don’t have time to develop a daily practice of caring for themselves, then taking a walk, breathing and just being in the present will provide the same effect as the routine I have developed.”
During his free time, Garner sees himself as a student and always enjoys learning something new. Garner commented, “I approach each day wondering what I will learn today [and this] is a feeling I never want to lose.”
When Garner is not writing, he focuses his time on learning and being a student, as most of us reading this article are. “And I Breathed...” is a book not only for students, but for readers of all ages in order to help others find their balance in life and what truly does make them happy.
At this time, Garner doesn’t know what will come next for him. When asked about plans for a future book, Garner stated, “I don’t worry about planning because it prevents being in the present moment. I’m really loving today and I think the present is pretty great on its own.” This quote can be very influential for college students in that, we worry too much about the future and what happens next, when we really should focus on living in the present and letting the future write itself.
“Life is about finding a balance,” as Garner says, and the biggest take away from his book is to invest in trust and experience the “beautiful gift, available to us all.” Garner’s book can be purchased on Amazon or through Garner’s website, jasongarner.com/book.
