What’s in my cup? Poinsettia

The crimson flower, the poinsettia, adorning the holiday season, inspires this week’s drink. Serve this beautiful cocktail at any holiday party or brunch as a new alternative to a mimosa.

Crimson Folly

Spirited Ingredients:

  • ½ glass of champagne
  • ½ glass of cranberry juice
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • 1 oz of grenadine
  • 1 star anise pod

Virgin Ingredients:

  • ½ glass of ginger ale
  • 1 oz grenadine
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • ½ glass of cranberry juice
  • 1 star anise pod

*If you prefer not to use the star anise as a garnish, use simple syrup to line the glass rim and cover with gold or red sprinkles

Steps

  1. Add the lemon juice and swirl to coat the glass
  2. Add the cranberry juice
  3. Slowly add in the champagne (tilt the glass to keep it from over flowing)
  4. If making the virgin drink, add the ginger ale
  5. Add grenadine by ladling it in with a spoon
  6. Add the star anise pod for a garnish floating on the drink
