In this week’s SGA meeting, the main point of conversation was focused on Spring Weekend and the way in which it was run this year.

Although there was general feedback which was positive about the move of the bands to the area in front of Stubbs, there were a few senators who voiced their negative experiences with the location of the entertainment.

One senator stated that she was unable to work the desk in Stubbs well due to the loud noise and not being able to hear residents. Another senator who lives in the residence hall stated that she was unable to sleep due to the loud students and music.

There were also issues with residents letting people into Stubbs in order to let them use the bathroom. However, this was quickly remedied by posting a police officer near the front door to monitor who was entering the residence hall.

There were a few inquiries as to why the fence was installed near the student union before Spring Weekend. Dr. Tim Pierson, the vice president for Student Affairs, stated that this was due to the strict timeline which the university must follow when certain construction is funded by the state.

Another issue was brought up concerning hammocks. Students have been hanging hammocks between trees around campus, something which is against university policy.

Senator Shawn White reiterated the importance of keeping hammocks off small tree limbs and suggested that the university place large poles up to provide areas for students to hang hammocks.

During the historian’s report, it was stated that five constitutions were still in need of revision approval, including those of March of Dimes and Cyber Security.

The meeting closed with announcements, including the Senior Class President Natalie Joseph’s announcement of the senior week schedule. The schedule can be found on the committee’s Facebook page.

The last SGA meeting of the semester will be held on Tuesday, April 26 at 3:45pm in the ABC rooms of the student union.
