Senior psychology major Hunter Worsham aspires to become a pediatric clinical psychologist and plans to work with children in a psychiatric hospital.
“I’ve always loved kids and worked with kids and I’ve always found it to be really interesting. I thought it would be a fun career and I would still get to work with kids and help them,” said Worsham.
Worsham is considering pursuing a mental health counseling program at Longwood's graduate school or attending Virginia Commonwealth University for her masters’ degree in social work in a clinical setting. Worsham completed her internship over the summer with the Virginia Treatment Center for Children in Richmond.
Worsham is currently involved in Psych Club, Psi Chi (the international honors fraternity for psychology), and Big Siblings.
“I’ve learned how to deal with certain situations that the kid maybe doesn’t really know about. In Big Siblings, a lot of times the kids have a hard home life and they tell you things that they don't even know what it means,” said Worsham.
Being involved with Big Siblings helped Worsham process the struggles the children face as well work with them to make it a better situation.
“Be who you are and if people do not like that then you don’t need them anyway,” said Worsham.
