The Model: Autumn Childress is a junior communication studies major with a concentration in digital media and a Spanish minor from Midlothian, Va. She is the vice president of Longwood’s Pi Mu chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., currently serving as the collegiate member of the Regional Nominating Committee for the South-Atlantic region. Childress is also a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and the Sports and Leisure Industry Management Club (SLIM).
She is in her third year as a guard for the Longwood’s women’s basketball team, with Lancer Madness around the corner on Oct. 30 and her first game just two weeks away on Nov. 6. Childress’ hobbies include watching the news, particularly CNN, with interests in the political world, writing poetry, and more recently - blogging.
The Inspiration: Like most fashionistas, Childress gets her inspiration from the wonderful world of Pinterest; more recently browsing through fall fashion and noticing trends such as layering and the use of neutral colors. She uses her 'trendy' tactics to combine 'comforting and cute' looks for her day to day college life.
“I like to wear dresses and skirts a lot and people are always like ‘you dress up so much’ but in reality, dresses and skirts are literally the easiest thing to wear… It’s just something in my mind, like when I look in the mirror and everything just flows together, I know an outfit works.”
Some of her favorite places for inspiration include stores such as H&M, Cotton On and Goodwill as well as Instagram accounts @blackfashionmag and @ootdmagazine. Childress also gathers many outfit ideas from people around campus, piecing together looks from classmates and sorority sisters.
