Humans of Longwood: Alexis King

Alexis King is a freshman from Louisa County.

Freshman Alexis King, from Louisa County, started her first job at Dorrill Dining Hall upon her arrival at Longwood and applied to the work study program. Finally, on Aug. 16 King found herself moving in two days prior to the official freshman move-in day.

On an average week King works seven hours for dining services. Although King suffered a foot injury at the beginning of the semester, she toughed it out to continue her work despite having to use a scooter for almost two months. She plans to continue work next semester and has applied for a supervisor position.

“People say dining hall food sucks and I mean I work there so I get to see it made and I take a lot of pride in that,” said King.

Outside of work King enjoys hanging out with friends, taking trips to Walmart, and having movie nights. King also recently returned to rugby practices after recovering from her injury. She did not find balancing her school work, job, and social life to be challenging.

King is a part of the compass community, a program for some undeclared students to bond and build friendships. Many of her friends live on her hall and are also a part of the community so she finds it easy to spend time socializing regardless of her time commitment to school, work, and the rugby team.

“It’s (time management) actually really easy, I’m undeclared so I don’t have as stringent of a work load because it’s all just goals, the general goals that I need,” said King.
