Sophomore Nicole Del Rosario is a Communication Studies major from Virginia Beach with a concentration in Digital Media. Del Rosario is Vice President of Marketing for Lancer Productions and also hosts a WMLU pop culture radio show entitled “Ok.” “Ok” is a hybrid of pop culture updates about celebrities and featured music.
Del Rosario is passionate about pop culture and hopes to pursue a career in TV broadcasting. Del Rosario once considered pursuing a career working with networks similar to “E! News” because of her interest in celebrities but found it emotionally draining to talk about celebrity gossip. The celebrities that interest her the most are Kim Kardashian, Celine Dion, Brittney Spears and Mariah Carey.
“I wouldn’t necessarily say that Kim K. is one of my heroes but I think she is just a very interesting person and I like knowing things about her,” said Del Rosario.
While Del Rosario is well informed when it comes to pop culture, she also likes to stay up to date on world news. She believes that pop culture is an escape from the sometimes-depressing current world news.
Del Rosario is a first generation college attendee in the United States. Both of her parents immigrated to America from the Philippines. Del Rosario says her biggest supporter is her mom.
“My mom, honestly she is like my biggest supporter and like my number one fan. Every week she listens to my radio show and when she misses it she’s like ‘I’m so sorry!” said Del Rosario.
