“All Things Work Together" is Lecrae’s newest studio album from Reach Records. Lecrae was once considered a pure gospel artist, however, over the years Lecrae has gone different directions with his music with the past couple albums. Lecrae switched over to a genre of music that I like to call motivational music.
He talks about his personal life and recent controversial topics in a positive perspective that gets the listener pumped up. His lyrics, beats and presence make the listener feel inspired.
Going into this album, I had a general idea of what to expect, but I didn't foresee the production choices.
Lecrae went with a heavy trap sound, which I found really interesting since some of his other albums have a church-y vibe to them.
Producers such as Metro Boomin appear on this album to help deliver a powerful message through the music while, simultaneously, appealing to millennials.
One of my favorite tracks is the song “Broke.” "Broke" is a coming up story about Lecrae on how he had to be broke to eventually become successful in his career.
“Blessing” is another song that really showcases a strong message of learning from mistakes and not repeating them.
One song that caught me off guard was “Hammer Time” produced by Metro Boomin. This song was a tribute to MC hammer’s ad lib. This song can also contributes to the aforementioned theme of working hard towards your goals.
Towards the end of the album, Lecrae’s production begins to mellow down with songs like with “8:28” and "Worth It." This is where Lecrae raps about his life as a Christian.
In “8:28” he uses the bible verse of Romans 8:28 to inspire people who believe in Christ. This song could also be interpreted with a theme of don’t give up and keep your head held high.
This album ends with the beautiful song called, "Worth it" where the beat drop is amazing. This one talks about how Lecrae’s struggles with God's forgiveness even when he messes up some times.
Lecrae has a great mind for picking out his guest features, even including some artists that I usually don't care for.
Ty Dolla $ign was the most surprising feature on this album, though he fit well with the song “Blessing.”
The best feature however, had to be with both Jawan Harris and Kierra Sheard with their vocals on the track, "Worth It" was really good.
This album however, does have one major negative aspect which is Lecrae’s auto-tune, making his sound sub par at best. The use of auto tune on the tracks were reminiscent of other artists such as Quavo.
Despite this, overall “All Things Work Together" is a banger from top to bottom, exceeding expectations across the board for the album. From the production to the rapping- this album was amazing.
4/5 stars
