The new beauty trend for the summer is glowing skin. Ever since Rihanna gifted the beauty community with her new Fenty Beauty product, “Body Lava,” everyone has been buying out the body luminizer. The names of the highlighters themselves are enticing enough (“Who Needs Clothes” being the favorite) and the skin of the models flaunting the product on the Fenty website look absolutely stunning as well. Everyone's skin is just itching to be radiant and glisten in the sun from this sacred highlight.
There is one small problem though: it's $60! That price is as steep as college tuition. If everyone and their mother made as much money as Beyoncé, then best believe this stunning 8 ounce body highlighter would be in most everyone’s shopping carts, but that is far from the case. Here are some cheaper alternatives to looking extra fabulous when your wallet is on a forced diet!
The three simple products needed are makeup highlighter (a powdered one) , a bottle and a base. The base could be lotion, oil or aloe vera gel. The highlighter just needs to be mixed in a base so it will be easy to apply and stick to your skin. Aloe vera gel would be ideal because it moisturizes your skin and can treat sunburn, will dry completely without becoming oily or sticky and will not rub off, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. Just remember to keep it refrigerated or in a cool place away from the sun. A small travel sized bottle with a dropper works best for the mixture; it will be easy to travel with and the dropper will make the application process simple.
Remember to try this DIY on a cheap makeup highlighter before you use any expensive name brand product just in case you make a mistake. The great thing about this DIY is the only mistake you could make is adding too much highlighter, but who says that is a bad thing? First, chop up your highlighter until it is a very fine powder. The more pigmented you want the highlighter to be, the more you should add to the mixture. Once the powder is collected, place it aside until further use.
Next, take the aloe vera gel and pour it into the bottle. Using some type of funnel will make this process less of a mess. Then add the powder highlighter and shake well. Apply the highlighter to your collarbones, chest and shoulders. If you are going for a more dramatic look, make another body highlighter with a different pigment and apply along with the previous color.
The color of your body highlighter will be very reminiscent of the Body Lava product. The best part of this DIY is that it will take you less than $10 to make and lasts for months on end. Now your skin can be moisturized and extra fabulous at the same time. To “Shine bright like a diamond,” create this simple DIY or buy the $60 product if you can afford it. Now we can all sparkle in the sunlight and be Instagram ready!
