As the viral movement against sexual assault and sexual harassment, #MeToo continues, women are making it known that they are a force to reckon with.
Now, it is no surprise that women are changing the game. Yes, that game has been dominated by men, but whether at the polls or the runways, it is slowly but surely becoming a game for two.
While continuing its dive into the fashion industry, Nike has decided to pay its respects to women and their contributions to society through their latest campaign, “The Force is Female.”
The footwear manufacturer essentially launched the campaign in efforts to expose and uplift women “who are paving their own way, shaping culture, creating the future, inspiring their communities and demonstrating what it means to embody this mentality,” according to Nicekicks.com.
In a society where it seems as though women are deemed to be no more than conventional and domestic beings, Nike has given countless women an outlet to express themselves in their true form.
More so, the campaign’s mission is to recognize women who devote their time and energy to challenge themselves and others to live the unimaginable. The campaign features a few women who are leveling the playing field for the better, such as Zolee Griggs, Catalina Paz, Jami Ordiz, Alexis Quintero, Janae Roubleau and Alyssa Wallace.
The campaign’s impact has also caused a domino effect. Inspired by the campaign, professional basketball player and frequent Nike collaborator LeBron James partnered with shoe designers Brandice Daniel, Fe Noel, Undra Celeste and Kimberly Goldson this month, to design HFR x LeBron 16, a trademarked sneaker specifically made for women. HFR x LeBron 16 released in limited quantities on September 7.
“I grew up around some amazingly strong women and am inspired by the strength I see around me, including my mom, wife and daughter,” James told Nike.com
The primary objective of this vibrant movement is to highlight women who inspire their community. The women previously mentioned represent just that, as they’ve paved their way on a social media platform or a stage.
However, girl bosses don’t only reside within a screen or even a stage. There are a vast majority of opportunities being redefined by women where they were once limited.
Though with the arrival of the fresh campaign, Nike also sheds a positive light on their contemporary collection of footwear, which coincidentally happens to be in part with the Force is Female campaign. The contemporary collection includes a new Ultraforce Mid set and the Special Field Air Force 1.
The Ultraforce Mid is seen in multiple colors from red to basic black, while the Special Field Air Force 1 is seen in selective colors such as beige, olive, white and navy.
Although the empowering and captivating campaign and its collection was launched in mid-January, they are managing to still make an impact half a year later.
“The collaboration has led to a fusion of something that’s incredibly exciting — not just a shoe, but a message that’s inspiring to other women,” Meline Khatachourian, Nike’s footwear designer, told Nike.com.
Ultimately, Nike has made it their mission to encourage individuals to freely express themselves in any manner that they decide.
