The music industry has given Blueface, Billie Eilish and Summer Walker the opportunity to make an unforgettable mark with their offbeat flows, outlandish acts and optimism in this new year. One of the industry's major streaming platform, SoundCloud, has been generating mass attention as a main platform for upcoming and underground artists.
It has been utilized by alternative artists such as Lil Uzi, Playboi Carti and Juice WRLD to name a few. Needless to say, the music and podcast streaming platform has propelled multiple careers last year and continues to do so in 2019.
Blueface Bleedem, or just Blueface, has spiraled into the industry as the rapper that can’t remain on a beat and is certainly going against the grain. The Los Angeles based rapper has emerged onto the music scene with his viral bop “Thotiana” and “Respect My Crypn,” which gained the likes of big names varying from Drake, Quavo and YG. Yet, his stardom doesn’t stop there.
As he maneuvers within a lane paved by Lil B, Soulja Boy and Chief Keef, the Cash Money Records signee, as Complex Magazine puts it, “embodies the rap underdog persona perfectly.”
Which is accredited to his lack of lyricism, rhythm and beat, completely contrary to what the rap culture used to exhibit. Despite remaining offbeat and in a lane of his own, Blueface somehow manages to be an artist most love to hate as his fanbase continues to grow with young adults.
On the surface, the music industry seems to be evolving as it increasingly becomes dominated by fresh new faces, masked in talent. Embodying this fresh face talent is 17-year-old Los Angeles native Eilish who dives into a plethora of emotions, reactions and responses within her listeners.
Initially gaining popularity at the age of 14 due to her active postings, which included her song "Ocean Eyes" on SoundCloud, Eilish has since drawn in many newcomers. As of this year, Eilish is set to release her newest album, “WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?” on March 29. Her tour dates for this year have also been released, and she’ll be near Virginia, in the Washington D.C. area at The Anthem on June 20.
Unlike Blueface or Eilish, Walker is most definitely in a category of her own. The Atlanta, Ga. native is an alternative R&B artist who expresses the progressive side of R&B and isn’t scared to share it. More so, the optimistic artist is exactly what the music industry has been yearning for.
Walker is not reluctant to indulge in her soulful side, a side very present in her well-known single “Girls Need Love.” The track makes an appearance on her freshman album, “Last Day of Summer,” along with others like “CPR” and “Deep.” Walker will be taking her talents on the road shortly, as her tour begins on March 15.
Ultimately, these artists, and others, are worth keeping your eye on as their talents rise and they begin to influence a new generation of listeners.
