Rich the Kid shows no versatility in the “World Is Yours 2”

The World Is Yours 2 Album Cover

Rich the Kid is a Georgia rapper who has collaborated with artists like Kendrick Lamar and Migos. His previous album, “The World Is Yours,” had huge hits like “Plug Walk” and “New Freezer.” Now, he has released the continuation to that album. However, it lacks the same huge hit songs that showed off his creative side.

“The World Is Yours 2” sounds repetitive and boring, unlike the fun trap album the previous album was. Rich has a very repetitive flow, meaning if you hear one song on this album, you’ve heard them all. Songs like “Slide” and “Splashing” do sound different but Rich’s performance doesn’t change.

The only time he changes things up is “Two Cups,” which features Offset and Big Sean. Offset comes in immediately and matches the song’s energy. His vertical flows and quotable catchphrase lyrics provide some substance on this song. Big Sean also has a good verse, flowing with the beats. Rich, on the other hand, doesn’t do anything but deliver the same lyrics about cash, girls and jewelry.

“Woah” is also a likable track with Miguel and Ty Dolla $ign providing the guest vocals. Miguel provides a cushion for the rest of the artists to deliver verses. Rich is decent on this track, with different flows to give some substance to the song. Ty Dolla $ign also brings a unique voice that meshes really well with the track.

“Tic Toc” is a banger that features Torey Lanez coming in immediately, bringing some good energy. Rich comes in and surprisingly delivers one of his best verses for the whole album. The way he switches his flows made this song very pleasing to the ears.

“Rockets” is an interesting song since this is the first time Rich has collaborated with artists Takeoff and Lil Pump. Takeoff comes in on this track with a laid-back flow as well as providing the song’s hook. Rich delivers his normal flow with the same lyrics, which don’t enhance the song at all. Lil Pump also matches with this track’s vibe by delivering some laid-back, but witty and funny lyrics.

While there are some songs to enjoy on this album, there are also tracks that miss the mark completely. With “Fall Threw,” which features Young Thug and Gunna, Rich the Kid surprisingly had the best verse on this song. The way he flows on the beat is really impressive. However, Young Thug follows up with an underwhelming hook and Gunna also performs poorly, with no energy for this upbeat track.

“Save That” just sounds weird, with a flute playing in the background to enhance the beat. Normally when artists include wind instruments, it sounds good with trap drums. This time, the flute stands out and does not mix with the beat at all. Rich also does not bring anything lyrically, which is normal, but more present here since there are no features to back him up.

Overall, “The World Is Yours 2” is a letdown, considering the high standards from the previous album. It sounds like Rich is trying to ride the wave that he currently has, and while he does have an ear for quality beats and flows, none of that is present on this album. 2/5
