A cozy corner for coffee

Uptown 1

Situated on the Main Street strip amidst furniture and book stores, a quaint cafe where students and residents of Farmville go to socialize stands tall. Uptown Coffee Cafe has served the community since the summer of 2014 and has continued to thrive.

The cafe, typically called “Uptown” by locals, holds a significant amount of importance to the Farmville, but especially to the students of Longwood University. This is because the cafe was founded and opened by one of Longwood’s alumna, Jennifer Mattox.

Mattox graduated from Longwood in 2000 and, along with her husband, has given back to the university and the community by creating a place for others to come together.

Since it’s opening, Uptown has served a variety of flavored coffee and delicious meals from breakfast to dinnertime. Dessert can also be acquired in the form of hearty scoops of ice cream or a plethora of pastries to those who enter Uptown’s doors.

The cafe doesn’t only supply nourishment to Farmville’s residents, but also regularly provides live music and hosts events like Open Mic Night to entertain them, as well as giving voices to smaller, local artists.

Whether those who sit between the charming brick walls are there to perform their favorite tune, complete a homework assignment or mingle with friends, Uptown has something for any and everyone to enjoy.

Uptown Coffee Cafe can be found located on 236 N Main St., operating between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
