As a constant for more than 70 years on Main Street, Green Front Furniture originally opened as a grocery store named “Crallé Grocery”, after their owner Richard Crallé Sr.

After purchasing the neighboring businesses including one named “Green Front Grocery”, Crallé Sr. began selling furniture in his store and adopted the Green Front title.

Eventually Green Front would relocate as Crallé Sr. sold the buildings he bought and moved closer to the Appomattox River into what would become known as "Building One".

With the move, Green Front went to being exclusively a furniture store. Throughout its time in Farmville, Green Front has been a major source of tourist interest.

Due to Farmville’s location in the center of Virginia, many have made their way into the town to see and shop at Green Front.

The store’s success has been one that has stayed within the Crallé family. The business started with Crallé Sr. and is now owned by his son Richard “Dickie” Crallé, who is a graduate of Hampden- Sydney College.

All while Richard “Den” Crallé III is Green Front’s president.

Along with furniture, Green Front sells rugs, home goods and other accessories in the store.

While Green Front may not be on the radar for all college students as a place to shop, the store has done a lot as a part of the growth of Farmville
