In SGA: Approval of new clubs, groundbreaking ceremony announcement

In this week’s Student Government Association (SGA) meeting, executive council members presented on their positions, new clubs were approved and it was announced that there will be a ceremony for the new convocation center. 

Vice President Catherine Swinsky, Treasurer Samuel Torpy and Secretary Brandon Bowen all gave presentations on their positions to educate the senate before elections. In order to be on the executive council, you need to serve as a senator or representative for one full semester. 

In New Business, three new clubs were approved. First was the Good Eats club, which was created to promote healthy and happy eating habits in an all-inclusive environment. Next was True Blue: Stomp and Shake, a cheerleading-type team mixed with African style dance moves. Finally, Club Golf was approved under the Sports Club Council. All clubs are open for students to join. 

In Open Forum, Senator Camryn Ridpath announced that the work orders tab on the housing gateway does not work, so if students want to submit a work order they need to email workorder@longwood.edu.

In the Adviser’s Report, Dr. Tim Pierson announced that the Board of Visitors will be holding a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Convocation Center on March 20. More information will be announced as it gets closer, but all are welcome to attend. 

In the President’s Report, Haleigh Pannell announced that the Intent to Run for SGA form will come out on Monday, March 9 and will be due on March 24 to start off campaign week. 

The next SGA meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 10 at 3:45 p.m. inside of the Wilson Chamber at the Upchurch University Center.
